my little bride

sang min has just returned from the united states.. and on the plane, he is laughing at an old photo of boeun, the granddaughter of his grandfather's best friend. upon seeing her at the airport, he teases her over how she has grown into a fine young lady. reaching home, they realizes that the grandfather had been is now sick and he now wants to make good a promise that was made long time ago, and that is to let their children get married. sang min and boeun is astonished especially since she is only 15 years old. however, the grandfather, with tricks up his sleeve, managed to make himself look really really sick and eventually made them marry each other.

sang min, a playboy by nature has to live with boeun, who is secretly in love with the school's baseball captain, jung woo. on the day of their honeymoon at jeju island, boeun ran away, leaving sang min all alone at jeju, while she dates jung woo. when they return, they start having fights on their daily lifestyle. one day, boeun goes to jung woo's baseball league and was caught on tv... while sang min watched.. he is visibly upset...

sang min, being a final year arts student, was made to do internship at boeun's school but he didn't know how to tell her. when he showed up at her class, she is shocked and very furious. furthermore, her best friend, jealous of her having a boyfriend AND a husband, tells everyone about her being with jung woo, the most popular guy in school. ends up, boeun gets bullied by the school bitches. sang min also looks jung woo up. he grits his teeth while talking to jung woo but the latter obviously don't know what's going on.. ^__^

meanwhile, the girls in boeun's class pesters him to tell them his story about his first love. he tells them that his first love is on the only girl who visited him during his military service years back. he says that she may or may not know but it doesn't matter... (he looked sooo sad)

ms kim, a near-crazy-over-men spinster teacher finds sang min very very attractive and pesters him (with very hilarious effects!). when she founds out that he is actually married to boeun, she makes things difficult for her by making her paint the school hall wall for the school celebration all by herself. her best friend manages to put the past behind her and helps her. unknowing to boeun and her friend, sang min also got his two best friends to help make the wall painting look even better, despite having his graduation exhibition soon. at the same time, boeun was caught dating with jung woo and everyone gets very upset over this.

boeun's friend told her if she feels anything for sangmin and on the day of the celebration, she comes across a letter which she wrote to sangmin years ago. turns out that she was the one who visited him at his military camp but was turned back because of bad weather. he had kept the letter all the while... and she rushes off to the celebrations to find him...

in short.. this is a very sweet comedy.. with hilarious performance by kim rae won.. i think he can start being the official "slacker" spokesperson. the character here is very close to the one in "attic rooftop"... both slacker who laughs in a very special way all the time (you listen to it and you feel happy too.. serious) but also very sweet to the one they like. moon geun young is very cute here.. and she really grew up a lot.. and looks very very kawaii here. haha.

it may be very abrupt for many people.. a 15 year old and a 23 year old together? and in love? unthinkable! at first, i thought it would be very weird too.. but eventually.. it worked out. it's possible because they grew up together since young. imagine the scene where a boy always bully a younger girl? it's very possible... in fact.. it is the case in many times. and as sangmin's senior explains when boeun complains that they always teased each other when young... boys bully girls when they like them... so.. pretty cool yeah? haha.. but i think to avoid being too abrupt to more inflexible viewers.. haha.. they only shared one short kiss.. or rather touched their lips in one scene.. where sangmin was dreaming.. haha.. and finally when boeun tells him that she has fallen in love with him too, sangmin was soooooooooooo happy but chose to peck her forehead only.. haha...

in short.. it is very very sweet...very very funny.. and very very cute... hehe! highly recommended!!

crash and burn

well well.. my comp is on the brink of crashing.. and i've decided to leave it alone for the time being.. while my sis gets a cd writer back and start backing up all the files that i have....rare mp3s that took me years to find.. those are must-keeps. but surprisingly.. i didn't react very very strongly towards this crushing event. i guess i must have become too familiar with these pathetic events.. oh well oh well. but considering that it's my computer's first crash since 2001, i must say it has been an aggressive and will-endearing fight put up by that overworked piece of metal (and in case you're wondering.. i'm on my laptop now)

it's korean time... recently... i've been exposed to too much of korean things.. k-pop, dramas and movies... not that i dislike them.. in fact i'm too inspired to learn korean now among many other things.. the biggest effect must have come from the movie who are you. it really is really nice.. haha.. cuz i haven't seen good endings from the koreans in too long a time.. the other one which i watched recently, my little bride, by kim rae won and moon geun young is good too.. i'm currently going to finish the series, stairways to heaven by choi ji woo and kwon sang woo on scv.. haha.. it's teary, trashy, totally cliche.. but i'll still watch it.. because kwon sang woo looks surprisingly good and likeable inside. and choi ji woo fights! haha

ah... bought s.e.n.s latest compilation today.. very nice for they make good theme music. soothing.. and sad.. and nice!

who are you?

hyung tae is a young man, working his guts out for his game company.. he spends all his time in front of the computer.. literally married to his games. he has no interest in relationships although he has quite a few admirers... he has no time for that even, as he is lacking behind time and his production team is lagging... the new game that he has created.. it either makes or breaks his career.

"who r u?" is a new chat game.. where everyone gets an avatar and involves in some 3-d chatting environment with their chat partners.. they can even tour virtual places which feature the real seoul city layout in the game.. when they recruited beta testers for the game... hyung tae comes across a nickname "byulee"... and develops interest with this tester..

in ju works in an aquarium, dressed up as a mermaid to clean the tanks... she was once a very good swimmer.. but an accident left her deaf. with her hearing aid, she is cold, quiet and very reluctant to interact with people. she did not want to play "who r u" at first..but eventually when she did.. she was approached by "mello" .. and as time goes by.. she began to find a good friend and confidante in him....

hyung tae (mello).. unable to contain his curiosity.. managed to find out from "byulee" that they are in fact working in the same building.. aiming to make byulee fall in love with the game and with mello... he went to find her.. and after knowing in ju... he was so mesmerized by her independence and her take on life... he finally falls in love for the first time.. in ju however have a less-impressive impression of him.. and made it known to "mello"... especially when hyung tae desperately tries to convince her that people on the net are not to be trusted... she gets even more irritated... although at the same time... she finds herself attracted to hyung tae as well.. hyung tae himself is frustrated too... does in ju likes mello or him?

when byulee asks to meet.. hyung tae is torn between his identities...

actually when i watched the movie yesterday night on scv.. i had missed half of it... when i watched, hyung tae had already fallen in love with in ju... haha... not exactly the freshest idea for a movie.. but it's always nice to watch something sweet... i think hyung tae is easier to identify with... he is both confused and afraid... both his identities are in conflict with each other.. one being in ju's confidante, the other a loser in her eyes. he tried hard to play down "mello" but made things worse instead.

in ju is quite my favourite kind of female lead... weird tempered, resistent to life and very very enclosed. it's funny to see how she always just take off her hearing aid when hyung tae says something bad about mello.. (although very sad for him) and finally.. when she found out that mello is in fact hyung tae.. she runs away and sobs miserably. hyung tae mistakes that for her disappointment and asked her if she was angry because mello turned out to be a loser. she gets even more angry.. and eventually.. she said that.. she was angry because she did not know anything while he knew it all.. just when hyung tae decided that he would just leave... the latest ad campaign for "who r u" came up...

"among all the nicknames.... there is only one her. i once gave her an island... now i will give her the seas."

turned out that hyung tae put her picture and his love into the ad campaign...

sooo sweet... soooo nice. haha.. shall rent the vcd later... go get it~!

differences

i'm shocked. haha.. okie. that sounds a bit too serious. but i'm seriously surprised that everyone around me didn't enjoy the movie which i just did a review on in previous entry... i'm shocked. haha.. okie maybe i've been "trained" to endure japanese period dramas.. haha.. or maybe, as i conclude.. it's because i like the people inside. okie.

conclusion is: i'm a jap freak. like.. totally.

right..school has started for a week and i've yet done a review on it~! haha..

today's my first social psychology lecture.. pretty interesting.. we watched videos cuz our lecturer wasn't around.. technical stuffs i won't mention la.. no one would understand anyway.. haha.. but learnt pretty revealing things.. like the fact that everyone has the capactiy to be good or evil... it just depends on the power of the situation that we are in. not very revealing..but it coincides with the moviE! haha.. where the theme of one heart can either turn one into a demon or a buddha. wah... haha.. oops.. i'm in it again.. totally engrossing myself into a show and applying it on my everyday life. haha...

tomorrow's my second abnormal psychology lecture.. pretty interesting isn't it.. abnormal and all.. haha.. like.. it's my favourite module so far.. other than japanese of course.

oooh... sianz. tutorial rankings suck.

onmyouji

during the heian period of the medieval japan era, the imperial court at heian-kyo had not only officials among the ranks but also onmyoujis, men who were basically mediums who could mediate affairs with those from the other world. they could do what most wizards can do... they can bind spells, put curses, predict the future and fight supernatural beings.

minamoto no hiromasa is a young, brave but pretty naive samurai serving as an official in the court. one day, another higher official noticed a strange-looking gourd growing from his family plant and thus asked him to approach the mysterious onmyouji, abe no seimei on his behalf. although unwilling, hiromasa made the trip and was constantly surprised by seimei's powers... doors that could open by themselves, servants made from little pieces of paper... a young, sweet girl transformed from a butterfly... despite all these, abe no seimei, a freelance onmyouji who didn't really like working for the court befriended this samurai and decided to help him.

eventually... the emperor's newly born son was cursed and the head onmyouji, doson could do nothing about it. seimei was thus approached and he managed to lift the curse but he realized that something was going on behind all these... as things move on.. they realized that dosun was planning to take over the city and kill the guardians of the city... later on as they found out, the two guardians were seimei and hiromasa... but seimei was late and hiromasa was already shot with an arrow...

i've always been very enchanted by things like that... wizardry... supernatural... sorcerers... and thus this movie is really my cup of tea... perhaps having studied jap history and sai from hikaru no go wearing the same costume... i can relate better. hahaa...

ito hideaki is minamoto no hiromasa.... he did the role quite well... hiromasa is a very pure-hearted person... and always see seimei in awe cuz seimei always does a lot of tricks (often trick him too.. haha).. and he really loved one of the princess, sukihime and it was so sad when sukihime died....

nomura mansai is abe no seimei and he probably does it better than anyone else could have. abe no seimei is a man of mystery, poised, arrogant, confident and couldn't care much less about anything (even though he knows everything) especially politics. he knows what is to be done all the time and he knows how to do them well. his friendship with hiromasa is probably the thing he values most in his life...he cried and told hiromasa that he is the only person he cannot bear to lose. okay. this is the thing about japanese. they always make friendship between men go a bit overboard and make it seemingly.. gayish. and nomura mansai's slightly feminine look makes it worse. haha.. but i believe that nothing funny is going on. it's just very very very strong friendship yeah? accept it. but nomura mansai is really a great actor.. critically acclaimed in his field, the kyogen, a kind of japanese theater... his poise and elegance fully suited the character well since seimei is a high status person in the society 1200 years ago.. and he really portrayed seimei's arrogance well.. he rocks man.

japanese have a thing about names... in the movie... seimei mentioned something about how a name is also a kind of spell.. since spells simply binds itself along with something else.. and a name binds itself with the person. a similiar idea was in clamp's xxxholic too.. on how a baseball bat.. which given a new name.. can cut through metal.. and they have the art of putting life into paper too.. just like how seimei could transform so many servants from paper (he even had himself in paper.. when fighting with dosun.. dosun thought his sword had cut him.. but it was eventually just paper)... the idea came out in spirited away too.. the birds made from paper....

i especially love the part where seimei found the curse on sukihime.. and realized that dosun wanted to kill hiromasa.. he was so angry and he drew a spell on a paper.. chanting "o, soundless buddha of woe... may you reap what you have sown"... and shot an arrow with the paper.... crossing miles before hitting straight through dosun's pet who had been spying on them....

cool.

men in glasses

all my life, i've always stand by my maxim on guys.... guys who want to qualify as really good looking as to look good in glasses too.. other than jay chou, bae yong jun, david tao, wu ke qun (yes. he rocks. watch his mtv with hou xiang ting) and some others whom i can't really recall this instant, i have another one in my list.. and ta da~~~ like it's any surprise.. it's raymond lam fung~!!

okie oops. sorry... the last one i was crazy about was huo jian hua... haha.. now we move on from taiwan to hongkong.. haha...

okay.. it's all because of the drama survivor's law that i'm going crazy over him.. he was cute in mei wei qing yuan and rather cool in xun qin ji but had bad hair in all his period dramas and was totally irritating and asking for a beating in liu jin sui yue ... although if i didn't remember wrongly.. he went back to the right path in the end. .but he was still irritating.. haha.. so now as le bin in survivor's law as a cute lawyer who runs around in skater shoes (whatever that is called), chooses justice over friends (sooooooooooo gallant) and knits secretly for the girl he likes.... oh man. if only someone like that exists. and he looks super cute with his glasses and turtlenecks.. haha.. oh man... want to borrow the vcd and watch him in cantonese.. haha

anyway he is so cool... sings soooooooo well... is rich.... can study (UCLA) and looks cool with his hair.. he should always keep his hair short.. really.. hahaa

just like jay chou.

alien vs. predator

this has got to be the worst idea for a movie ever. EVER.

why would we want to watch two groups of horrible-looking creatures (i wonder if they even qualify as creatures) fight each other? better still, if the predator follows the first movie... we won't even get to see it (it's invisible, for the uninitiated). so thus we pay money to see a movie where a horrendous thing fights air.

how interesting.

and catch the tagline...."whoever wins, we lose." i want to laugh. really.

listening to jay chou's latest album now... other than qi li xiang and you yuan hui, which i took an instant liking.. the rest, i have yet to explore in depth. this two songs sound pretty similiar in the feeling... bright... sunny summer... happily in love... subtly expressing their emotions to each other... it's beautiful cuz it's so quiet and simple... so subtle and sweet. oh.. does this explain my recent good mood? haha.. and like what i did for his previous album.. i shall be doing my own reviews for all his songs in this album.. stay tuned~!

tomorrow will be the last day of work for me.. leaving iras again.. haha.. i bought my supervisor a cute wrist support.. (thanks wanhui for shopping with me.. and junming for walking around with us). i bought winnie the pooh cookies for my lunch kakis... and i'm really tempted to keep the chocolate chip ones for myself.. argh.. haha...

school will be starting in a week.. i'm so excited yet nervous at the same time.. excited perhaps it's school time again and i'm one step closer to learning more of psychology (yes, i'm THAT interested) and nervous cuz i have 3 core mods.. and it will take its toil on me. gee.. i can only hope my luck goes on~!

anyway.. i have a friday-free week and one lecture only on monday... jio me out~! haha..

oh and did i mention i love lam fung (lin feng) now?! haha.. he rocks man.. listen to theme song of his lawyer show.. and u know what i mean..

brotherhood

movies that emphasize on the kind of brotherly ties between men never fail to intrigue me. think lord of the rings and the last samurai. it's movies like that that always reduce me to tears.

taegukgi tells the story of two brothers... the younger one (won bin.. who looks so cute and so cool when he matured) was drafted into the army when the korean war broke out. the older one (jang dong gun... impressive acting) who loved his brother more than anything else volunteered into the army and took on special life-threatening missions to win the medal of honour so as to send his little brother back home. but things go awry when the older brother began to get too involved in his missions and ended up changing into someone who was cruel and ruthless. the younger brother couldn't quite take this change and disapproved of what his brother did. eventually... the older brother defected to the north korean communists and the younger brother who had earlier denounced him... took it upon himself to get his brother back and went back to the 38th parallel (the then bloodiest battlefield) just a week before his discharge....

it's a very touching story.. the strong ties between the two brothers, jin-tae and jin-seok. the older brother was protective and caring, even though he did go too far while the younger brother served as a conscience for the older one.. bringing him back to the right side again. the kind of friendship built between comrades and friends.. it only gets stronger with time and ordeals.

that's why i'm always envious and always very inspired by war flicks. the saddest part must be the war.. it was gory and violent.. but true too. it must have been worse in the real war... the soldiers didn't know what they are fighting for.. at least most of them didn't, i believe. they were students.. drafted into the army .. and they had to kill whoever they see in a different uniform. and just like what jin-seok said about his brother .. "he doesn't know what is communism and democracy". they fight because they can only survive if they win.

it's sad but true. may peace prevails.
